Organized by MIST Robotics Club, Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), 30 April 2016

Receiving the Line Follower Race champion award with my teammates at the ROBOLUTION 2016 prize-giving ceremony, MIST

ROBOLUTION 2016 was the first edition of ROBOLUTION, the national inter-university robotics competition organised by the MIST Robotics Club at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka, on 30 April 2016. Students from more than 35 universities and colleges took part across eight segments: Line Follower Race, Robo Fight, Quadcopter Challenge, two categories of Project Show, Poster Presentation, R Olympiad and a Rubik's Cube challenge, with total prize money of Tk 650,000. The event was inaugurated with ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder as chief guest and Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal as special guest.

I led our team, DUET Robo Express, in the Line Follower Race, one of the most competitive segments of the event. [114] teams registered and [93] competed in the preliminary round, with teams from many of the country's top universities. Only [7] teams qualified for the final.

In the final, our robot completed the course in [1 minute 47 seconds], winning the championship and a prize of Tk 50,000. I competed alongside teammates Ananda Kumar Saha, Emran Hossain and Md. Imranul Haque, all third-year students at DUET at the time.

The win marked a turning point for our team. Later that year, DUET Robo Express went on to win Cybernauts 2016 at North South University. Our ROBOLUTION success was featured in the Daily Ittefaq on 25 May 2016, in an article titled "Champion Robo Express".

In brief

In its Campus feature of 25 May 2016, the Daily Ittefaq profiled Team DUET Robo Express after our championship win in the Line Follower Race at ROBOLUTION 2016, held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka. The article traces my interest in electronics from childhood, when I took apart broken devices to understand how they worked, and my decision to build robots after first seeing one on television. It follows my path through microcontroller programming and robotics to DUET, and our team's earlier 2nd Runner-up finishes at the RUET RoboTour and Programming Contest and at Mecceleration 2015 at the Islamic University of Technology. At ROBOLUTION 2016, 114 teams registered for the Line Follower Race, 93 competed in the preliminary round and 7 reached the final. Our robot completed the final course in 2 minutes 47 seconds to win the championship and Tk 50,000. The article features my teammates Ananda Kumar Saha, Emran Hossain and Imranul Haque, all third-year students at the time, and closes with the team's next goal: building a humanoid robot and a drone.
