Leadership

November 2016 – April 2018

President

DUET Robotics Club, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur

I was elected President of the DUET Robotics Club for the 2016–17 session, serving from November 2016 to April 2018. Founded on 27 February 2014 through the dedication and hard work of senior students, the club had in just a few years become one of DUET's most active student organisations, bringing robotics to the university and winning national recognition for its teams.

2017

Convener

DUET TECHFEST 2017 — Department of EEE and DUET Robotics Club, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur

I served as Convener of DUET TECHFEST 2017, the first science and technology festival ever held at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur. Jointly organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the DUET Robotics Club, the festival was created to give students from DUET and universities across Bangladesh a platform to engage with fast-changing technology and share their innovative ideas.

February 2017 – March 2018

Founding Vice Chairman (Technical)

IEEE DUET Student Branch, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur

I served as the founding Vice Chairman (Technical) of the IEEE DUET Student Branch, the university's chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest technical professional organisation. As part of the branch's first executive committee, I helped lay its foundations from February 2017 to March 2018.

2014 – 2017

Founder and Team Leader

DUET Robo Express, DUET Robotics Club, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET)

I founded and led DUET Robo Express, the second robotics team in the history of the DUET Robotics Club and one of its most successful. Formed in 2014, soon after the club itself was founded, the team brought together friends who had met through the club, students from the Departments of EEE and ME who shared a passion for building autonomous robots for national inter-university competitions.

April 2018

Founder

DUET Aeronautical Society, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur

In April 2018, as President of the DUET Robotics Club, I founded the DUET Aeronautical Society as the club's sister organisation, dedicated to drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). DUET's robotics work had already earned recognition across the country, and interest in drones was growing quickly among our students, alongside a clear need for research in this field in Bangladesh.

October 2015

Founder and Team Leader

DUET Runway-71, DUET Robotics Club, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur

I founded DUET Runway-71 on 15 October 2015 with one goal: to build and fly a drone at DUET, something no team at the university had attempted before. I started with no prior experience of drones, but brought together a team of ten students from the Departments of EEE, ME, CSE and Textile Engineering to design and build a quadcopter from scratch.

The Best of Cybernauts

By Mahbubur Rahman Sumon

In brief

On 21 December 2016, the Daily Kaler Kantha published a feature on Cybernauts 2016, one of the country's largest inter-university technology competitions, organised by the North South University Computer and Engineering Club from 28 to 31 October 2016. The event had four segments: a Line Follower Robot Contest, a programming contest, an engineering project showcase and a cyber athletics contest. The article opens its coverage with our team, DUET Robo Express, champions of the Line Follower Robot Contest. Ninety-five teams competed, including teams from the University of Dhaka, North South University, BRAC University and MIST. Only eight reached the semi-final and four the final, where our robot completed the course, with its sharp turns and a small bridge, in just 57 seconds. It was the best-performing robot in all three rounds, ahead of the runner-up team from MIST, and won us the championship and Tk 25,000. The feature introduces our team members: Emran Hossain and me from the Department of EEE, and Ananda Kumar Saha from Mechanical Engineering, all final-year students at the time, who met through the DUET Robotics Club. It describes how we built the robot over two months, with a design that reads the track in real time instead of following a pre-programmed route, and lists our earlier results: 2nd Runner-up at the RUET RoboTour and Programming Contest and at Mecceleration 2015, then 1st Runner-up at Robo-Droid 2016, 2nd Runner-up at the Global Robotics Challenge 2016 Bangladesh round and Champion at ROBOLUTION 2016.

DUET team crowned champion at ROBOLUTION 2016

By Nadim Mojid · Campus

In brief

In its Campus feature of 25 May 2016, the Daily Ittefaq profiled Team DUET Robo Express after our championship win in the Line Follower Race at ROBOLUTION 2016, held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka. The article traces my interest in electronics from childhood, when I took apart broken devices to understand how they worked, and my decision to build robots after first seeing one on television. It follows my path through microcontroller programming and robotics to DUET, and our team's earlier 2nd Runner-up finishes at the RUET RoboTour and Programming Contest and at Mecceleration 2015 at the Islamic University of Technology. At ROBOLUTION 2016, 114 teams registered for the Line Follower Race, 93 competed in the preliminary round and 7 reached the final. Our robot completed the final course in 2 minutes 47 seconds to win the championship and Tk 50,000. The article features my teammates Ananda Kumar Saha, Emran Hossain and Imranul Haque, all third-year students at the time, and closes with the team's next goal: building a humanoid robot and a drone.
