A one-day workshop where I trained 50 students from universities across the country to design, simulate and program advanced line follower robots.

  • Line follower fundamentals
  • Infrared sensor arrays
  • ATmega328 and Arduino Uno
  • Circuit simulation in Proteus
  • Motor drivers
  • Live robot demonstration
Leading the Workshop on Advanced Line Follower Robot for 50 university students at the EMK Center, Dhaka

The Bangladesh Science Society organised this workshop at the EMK Center in Dhaka, with support from EMK MakerLab, to introduce university students to competition-level robotics. Fifty students from different universities across the country took part, most of them keen to build their first serious robot.

The session took participants through a line follower robot from first principles to advanced design. We covered how infrared sensor arrays read the track, how the ATmega328 microcontroller and the Arduino Uno platform process those readings, and how motor drivers control the robot's speed and turning. We also looked at the techniques that separate a competition robot from a basic one.

I demonstrated the full design process I use with my own team, starting with simulating the circuit in Proteus before building any hardware. I then ran a live demonstration of a working robot on a line track, so participants could see the robot's sensing, decisions and motor control in action.

I led the workshop as the main trainer, drawing on my experience as Team Leader of DUET Robo Express, the national champions at ROBOLUTION 2016 and Cybernauts 2016. I was supported by fellow trainers Jimmy Majumder and Asif Mahmud Shuvo.

Participants left with a clear understanding of how a line follower robot works and how to improve one for competition. I am grateful to the Bangladesh Science Society and its Founder and President, Suman Saha, for organising science and technology events like this for young engineers.
