Participants of the Workshop on Making Drone with the trainers at KUET, Khulna

The Bangladesh Science Society organised this two-day workshop at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology to spread knowledge of advanced technology and encourage young people to take part in it. A total of 160 participants from different universities joined, divided into two batches, one on 30 December and one on 31 December 2016.

The programme combined seminars on advanced drone technology and the promising applications of drones with practical workshop sessions on drone making. Participants learned about the components that go into a drone and how they work together, then watched live drone demonstrations. Each batch ended with a question-and-answer session and a quiz.

The main trainer was Nahid Ferdous, Head of the Advanced Drone Project in the Research and Development Department of the Bangladesh Science Society. I joined him as a trainer, alongside Md Shajedul Hasan of the same project, and we both delivered presentations on robotics.

All participants received certificates, and the top three from each batch were rewarded. In the first batch, Shamudra Dey of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology became champion, with Azmol Ahmed Fuad and Samantha Khan Era of KUET as first and second runners-up. In the second batch, Naeem Mohammad Sami, Sumit Chanda and Nabil Md Shahid, all of KUET, took the top three places. Suman Saha, Founder and President of the Bangladesh Science Society, attended the closing ceremony and presented the prizes.

The workshop was reported in the national press under the headline "Workshop on making drone at KUET". As a technology enthusiast, I was honoured to be part of it, and I thank the Bangladesh Science Society and Suman Saha for the opportunity.
