Participants of the Workshop on Making Drone with the trainers at the RUET Shaheed Minar, Rajshahi

The Bangladesh Science Society organised this day-long workshop at the RUET campus to introduce university students to drone technology. It drew 137 participants from RUET, the University of Rajshahi, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University and several universities in Sylhet, making it one of the largest groups I have trained.

The session covered the fundamentals of making a drone: how a multirotor is put together, the role of the frame, motors, electronic speed controllers, flight controller, battery and radio system, and how these parts work together in flight. We then explained how a flight controller keeps a drone stable, with a focus on PID control and how tuning it affects the way a drone holds its position and responds to commands. We also discussed the wide range of drone applications, from aerial photography and surveying to agriculture and emergency response.

To bring the theory to life, we demonstrated drones in flight, both indoors in the seminar hall and outdoors on the campus grounds, and captured aerial photographs with a camera-equipped drone so participants could see real aerial imaging at work.

I led the training together with my friend Nahid Ferdous, Founder of G-Robotics, drawing on the experience of building and flying DUET's first drone with my team, DUET Runway-71.

The workshop ended with a group photo of all participants at the RUET Shaheed Minar, with many students leaving keen to build drones of their own.
